What happens: • You receive a phone call from someone saying they are from the Council • They tell you they need to do some work on your drains • This work will cost you £20,000 and you will need to send a cheque. • They start the work that day. What to do: • This is a SCAM - Do not allow them on your property. • If you think there is a problem with your drains, contact Southern Water on 0330 303 0368. • Southern Water would never demand money for repairing drains they are responsible for. • Find out who is responsible for repairing drains and sewers on Citizens Advice • Report scam calls to Citizens Advice on 0808 223 1133 Please warn family members, friends and neighbours. What happens: • You get a phone call saying you owe money for your telephone line • The caller says they will switch your line off • He tells you to hang up, then try and make a call • You try to make a call but there is no dialling tone – the line appears to be dead • The scammer calls back demanding the payment What to do: • This is a SCAM - Do not give any bank details • The scammer makes your line appear dead by staying on the line but muting the sound - you cannot make calls • To report and for advice visit Citizens Advice consumer helpline or call 0808 223 1133 Please warn family members, friends and neighbours.
